Launching Meeting of Chinese Working Committee for IAHS-PantaRhei in WHU

On 16th November, 2016, the Launching Meeting of Chinese Working Committee for IAHS- PantaRhei was held in the meeting room of the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering (Hydro-Lab) by Academician Xia Jun. Chairman of IAHS Hubert Savenije, Secretary General of IAHS Christophe Cudennec, Vice Chairman of IWRA James E. Nickum, Chairman of IAHS-CNC Zhang Jianyun, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Chinese Working Committee Liu Changming, Academician Wang Jiyang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Vice President of Wuhan University Li Jiancheng, Vice Governor of Hubei Province Guo Shenglian and another ten scholars attended the meeting.
Vice president of Wuhan University Li Jiancheng delivered an opening speech to express warm welcome to the Launching Meeting of Chinese Working Committee for IAHS-PantaRhei. Academician Zhang Jianyun announced that China Working Committee was formally established and read out the list of members of the Committee. Then, Xia Jun, Chairman of  Chinese Working Committee for IAHS-PantaRhei, and Liu Changming, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Chinese Working Committee, jointly inaugurated the Chinese Working Committee Wuhan and Beijing office.



After the opening ceremony, Chairman of IAHS Hubert Savenije delivered a speech of the history and the development of IAHS. He said IAHS is a non-profit non-governmental scientific organization committed to serving the science of hydrology and the worldwide community of hydrologists. The IAHS was established in 1922, and it is one of the eight associations that comprise the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics. In addition, Panta Rhei was launched in 2013 and the Panta Rhei scientific decade runs from 2013-2022, focusing on scientific understanding, prediction and water management in rapidly changing environmental systems, with an explicit focus on the role of humans in the water cycle. 


Professor Lu Wenbo, Vice President of School of  Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering said the launching of Chinese Working Committee for IAHS-PantaRhei will unite the Chinese hydrologists in the PantaRhei program and further promote China's hydrological community and the international hydrological community exchanges and cooperation, which is the promotion of the building of Double First-rate in WHU.
